These warnings are being put in place to caution residents about potential disruptions caused by lightning, heavy rain, hail, and strong winds. The warnings are expected to last until Monday, with conditions potentially becoming quite severe in some areas.
Heat Health Alert and Recommended Precautions
A yellow heat health alert has been issued by the UK Health Security Agency for various regions including the East and West Midlands, East of England, South East, West, North West, and London. This alert indicates that the hot weather may have a minor impact on health and the social care sector, urging people to take necessary precautions. The Met Office has advised keeping curtains closed during the hottest part of the day and staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water to stay cool and prevent heat-related illnesses.
While regions like London, East Anglia, and the home counties are expected to experience the warmest weather with highs of up to 33C in London, not all parts of the UK will be affected by the heatwave. Similarly, the hottest day of 2024 so far was recorded on 19 July, with temperatures reaching a peak of 31.9C in central London.
