While the exact mechanisms behind coffee’s protective effects remain unclear, previous studies have linked the beverage to longer and healthier lives. Caffeine, a key component of coffee, has been shown to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, decaffeinated coffee contains antioxidants that can boost metabolism and reduce inflammation, while certain compounds in coffee may protect the brain from degenerative diseases like Parkinson’s. Despite the positive findings of this study, researchers emphasize the need for more investigations into the optimal dosage of coffee for maximizing its health benefits. While some studies have indicated that consuming five cups of coffee a day may lower the risk of cancer recurrence, excessive coffee intake beyond that threshold may not provide additional benefits.
