Studiocanal, a Paris-based production-distribution company, is making a big move to the Big Apple. The company has decided to launch a new office in New York City, with Anne Chérel being promoted to Chief Commercial Officer to lead this new venture. This expansion comes at a time when Studiocanal is actively working on projects like Paddington in Peru and already has a presence in Los Angeles and a stake in The Picture Company.
The main focus of the new NYC office will be to collaborate with American distribution partners. This strategic move is part of Studiocanal’s plan to combine distribution and global sales efforts for all their film projects, while also working closely with third-party distributors. Some of the upcoming projects include collaborations with major American partners like Sony Pictures, Focus Features, A24, and Sony Pictures Classics.
With Chérel’s recent promotion as the Chief Commercial Officer, there have been several executive-level changes at Studiocanal. Dominique Jubin has been appointed as the Head of French Drama at Ciné+ OCS, Isabelle Pain has joined as the Head of Global Acquisitions & Analytics, and Sara Reese Geffroy has been brought in as the SVP of Studiocanal Stories label and TV series development. These changes reflect the company’s commitment to expanding its global reach and strengthening its leadership team.
Chérel’s Role and Responsibilities
As the Chief Commercial Officer, Chérel will be overseeing all global distribution efforts for Studiocanal. With her extensive experience in the industry, including her previous role as EP Global Sales & Distribution, she is well-equipped to handle this challenging role. Chérel first joined Canal+ in 2009 before moving to the Studiocanal global sales division, where she has been instrumental in the distribution of various films.
Studiocanal’s expansion to New York City marks an exciting new chapter for the company. With a focus on collaborating with American distribution partners and strengthening their global presence, Studiocanal is poised for continued success in the ever-evolving film industry. Chérel’s promotion and the recent executive-level changes highlight the company’s commitment to growth and innovation in the international market.
