Chloë Sevigny Reflects on Working with Christian Bale in American Psycho

While filming American Psycho, Chloë Sevigny found herself in a situation where she struggled with Christian Bale’s acting process. In a recent interview with her co-star Josh Lucas, Sevigny opened up about how she was intimidated by Bale’s method acting. She admitted that she found his seriousness to be quite overwhelming, especially since she describes herself as being gregarious and silly.

Sevigny explained that she was trying to respect Bale’s process, but it was a challenge for her. She felt intimidated by his approach and wished for a bit more generosity to help her feel at ease. The dynamic between the two actors was difficult for Sevigny, as she struggled to understand why Bale wasn’t more social on set. Despite not fully grasping the concept of Method acting at the time, she found it to be a very intimidating experience.

On the other hand, Josh Lucas had a different perspective on Bale’s acting. He revealed that when he first worked with Bale, he thought his performance was terrible. However, upon reflection, Lucas realized that Bale’s choices were actually brilliant and that he operated at a completely different level as an actor. What Lucas initially perceived as false acting turned out to be a complex and multi-layered performance.
