The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain across large parts of the UK this weekend, putting areas at risk of flooding and disruption. The warning will be in effect from 9pm Saturday evening until 6pm Sunday, covering a vast area from the south coast up to Sheffield and stretching from Immingham in Lincolnshire down to Tenby in Pembrokeshire.
The forecasted band of “heavy and thundery rain” is expected to hit the south coast on Saturday and gradually move northwards overnight. Some regions could receive up to 100mm of rain, leading to potential power cuts, flooding, and dangerous driving conditions. This comes on the heels of heavy rainfall in southern England and Wales earlier in the week.
According to the Met Office, the rainfall amounts will vary significantly across the warning area. While some locations may receive less than 10mm, others could see as much as 40-60mm of rain. There is even a possibility of isolated spots receiving 80-100mm of rain by Sunday, particularly in the southern half of the warning zone.
While the south faces the brunt of the heavy rain, northern parts of the country can expect sunny and dry spells to continue. However, conditions will gradually become cloudier and milder heading into the next week. Cooler temperatures are anticipated nationwide, with an unsettled weather pattern prevailing.
